River Kitoy

The Kitoy is a river in the eastern part of Siberia in Russia. Length: 316 kilometres; Catchment basin area: 9190 sq. kilometres; Falling differential: 1500 meters. It flows through Buryatia and the Irkutskaya oblast. It is a left-hand tributary of the Angara.

The Kitoy originates on the Kitoyskiye Goltsy mountain range (the highest mountain is Ospinsky Golets, 3215 meters) and flows between this mountain range and the Tunkinskiye Goltsy. The Kitoyskiye Goltsy and Tunkinskiye Goltsy are parts of the Eastern Sayans.

The largest part of the drainage basin of the river is in the highland, its smaller part is situated on the plane. The source of the river is mixed, with pluvial waters being the main source. The average water flow in the mouth of the river is approximately 115 m3 per second, the largest flow is 2340 m3 per second.

The Kitoy freezes in the second half of October and the ice breaks at the end of April - at the beginning of May.
